Job Description for Inside Sales Specialist – Front Desk and Fish Retail Associate

Catanese Classics is Ohio’s premier choice for Seafood, Meat, Cheese, Spices, and other specialty goods. We are a full service fresh and frozen seafood/meat and processor and distributor based in Cleveland, Ohio. Under our Chef 2 Chef operation, we supply a variety of international specialty goods, including Cheese, charcuterie, spices, grains/beans, oil/vinegar, chocolate, couverture, and pastry ingredients. 

The Inside Sales Specialist represents the company with knowledge and understanding of our products/services. The position requires a mix of duties including Inside Sales/Customer Service, helping in the retail store as needed as well as working as handling a special account. 


Major Responsibilities and Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Answer phones, transfer/direct to requested person in a professional manner.
  • Handle customers’ calls, requests, orders in a helpful manner.
  • Take calls from outside salespeople, input orders, process hold requests, communicate with Warehouse Manager of special requests.
  • Be knowledgeable of Classic Seafood and Chef2Chef Foods product lines and operations and learn to use QuickBooks software, our new AFS system and other software such as Slack. 
  • Process all Sales orders into invoices, maintaining accuracy of quantity, special instructions, routes, and date of delivery.
  • Communicate product outages with Sales staff as needed.
  • Be knowledgeable of existing customers and their unique specifications.
  • Perform clerical work related to the tasks performed.
  • Assist other department personnel (i.e. assist in taking Main Client orders)
  • Performs other related duties as assigned (i.e. office cleanliness)


Major Responsibilities and Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Ensures a fresh and appealing display by filling the ice showcase, checking quality of products, keeping cases and shelves clean and well stocked, and performing other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains updated department signage and pricing as needed.
  • Provides excellent customer service, addresses the needs of in-person customers in a timely and effective manner.
  • Provides excellent customer service by answering phones and pages promptly and courteously.
  • Strives for maximum sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and displaying product.
  • Cuts, weighs, and packages product up to company standard.
  • Performs opening and closing duties as assigned.
  • Runs transactions through the register and credit card machine.



High School diploma/GED Required.

Proper attire- must be prepared to work in the retail store at any time which requires non-slip shoes, clothing appropriate for in person sales as well as fish.  

Must be self –motivated and accountable for time management without constant supervisor direction.

Participate in all monthly departmental meetings and training.   

Exhibit strong customer relations skills and a sense of urgency in meeting customer needs.

Basic computer skills and proficiency with MS Outlook

Ability to learn and master AFS, QuickBooks.

Weekend availability.

Assist with Clambake season- Sept – November as needed. 

Ability to: 

Lift 40 pounds on a frequent basis.

Learn basic knowledge of all the products carried in the retail store.

Stand for a long period of time at your workstation.

Work as part of a team and interact effectively with others.

Work in 32–40-degree Fahrenheit temperatures.

Handle knives and other cutting equipment.

Understand and be compliant with the Catanese Classic quality standards.
